Band and Guard Booster Update: Parade, Football game, and many more updates!

09-24-25

Elkins Band & Guard Family,

You can tell that Bandtober is upon us!  Bandtober is where we are in full on band activities all month long.  Your assistance in volunteering is needed and greatly appreciated.  This newsletter is full of a lot of helpful information on upcoming band activities.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated for our Raise-365 fundraiser.  As of Tuesday, we are at $49,950 of the $60,000 goal, so about 83% of the way!  Today is the LAST DAY to get your donations in.

You can donate directly to the Booster Club, if you'd rather, by sending a check with your student to give to Mr. Chen/Ms. Scott, or to: Elkins Band Booster Club, 6140 Hwy. 6 #94, Missouri City, TX 77459. Or, go to the BoosterHub store and make a donation by credit card, and we will attribute it to the fundraiser. This will not count toward individual prizes associated with your student.  Also, don't forget about company matches!

We also want to take a moment to recognize one of our Corporate Sponsors:  CycleBar, a Corporate Gold Sponsor, is in Riverstone and combines heart-pumping workouts, curated playlists, and a supportive fitness community to fuel your goals. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned cyclist, every ride is designed to motivate, challenge, and empower you— both on and off the bike. For a limited time, the first ride is free.  Thank you so much for your support of our program!

If you purchased the rehearsal pizza plan for your student, it will be served on Thursday, September 25th at 3:15 pm this week.  Please remind your student to pick up their pizza.

Fort Bend County Fair Parade – Friday, September 26th

Our students have a busy Friday ahead on September 26th—even though it’s a school holiday!  They’ll be marching in the Fort Bend County Fair Parade that morning, followed by cheering on the team at the football game in the evening. A few things to note about the parade:

Volunteers: If you are volunteering for this, you should ride the buses as we don’t know the parking situation.

Food: We will offer a grab-and-go breakfast with choices including, Made Good breakfast bars, Nutri-Grain bars, blueberry or chocolate chip muffins, clementines. If this doesn’t excite your student, please make sure they eat prior to coming to school.

Water: Please make sure your student stays hydrated – they should come to school with both ice and water in their jugs. If your refrigerator doesn’t make ice, one trick you can do is fill a plastic Solo cup with water and freeze overnight. The size of the ice is perfect for the jugs and will last long.

Lastly, we encourage you to come out and show your support!

Elkins vs. Austin Football Game (Away) – Friday, September 26th

This Friday, September 26th we will be playing against Austin High School at Mercer Field.  Come out and watch the game and see our Band and Color Guard perform their show at halftime.

Volunteers are still needed to assist with help with the upcoming Austin football game:  we need assistance in all areas (percussion equipment, chaperones, traffic director, etc).  Please go to our volunteer page to sign up.

It is imperative that you are there to pick up your student on time or arrange in advance for them to catch a ride with a friend.  Please park in the designated area and wait for your student to come to you.  Remember that students must unload, put up equipment (have uniforms checked in when we start wearing them), etc. before they can leave.  So be patient.  It is important that you park in a parking spot in the student lot closest to the parking lot attendant building (near the entrance of the lot) and wait for your student to come to you. There is no "pick up line" and it is a safety issue to have cars moving near the band hall when students are coming and going.

Fort Bend Band Night Pre-UIL

Heading into next week, the students have Pre-UIL at Hopson Field House.  Come out and watch the show and see our Band Students and Color Guard perform.  Elkins will perform at 7:30 pm, so come early to see the other bands!  Admission is free, and concessions are available.  We do need volunteers to assist for this event just like any other football game.  We will need assistance with handing out meals at the school, bus chaperones, halftime show helpers, etc.  Thank you in advance your continued support!  We can't do it without you!

Volunteers needed for this week’s football game and other activities

We do have several upcoming events that require volunteer support.  Do visit the Booster volunteer page to review opportunities for you to volunteer at events and football games:

  • Thursday, September 25 - Help with pizza or packing snacks
  • Friday, September 26 – Football vs Austin Game
  • Tuesday, September 30 – Fort Bend Band Night Pre-UIL
  • Wednesday, October 1 – Packing Snacks
  • Thursday, October 2 – Football vs. Travis HS Game

Football Tickets Purchasing Link

Tickets for the football season can be purchased here:  Elkins High School Events and Tickets by GoFan.  If you are a bus chaperone for a football game, you do not need to purchase a ticket.  All other volunteers, guests must purchase a ticket.

Community Bash Games Opportunity

On Saturday, October 18, the band is hosting an Elkins Community Bash from 12 -2 p.m. at school. The band will perform for the community at noon, followed by food and games. Here's where we need help: We are looking for families to sponsor the carnival games. By doing this, you would choose a carnival game (see idea list below), gather the materials, set it up, and run it.   There will be students to help, but due to them being in rehearsal and then performing, they aren't able to do the set up. The Booster Club will provide game prizes. Please email Christine at president@elkinsband.org to say which game you can help with.

Possible carnival game ideas:

Ring around the soda bottle.

Cake/cookie walk.

Guess weight of a cake

Treasure chest - fill an ice chest with ice and gold coins

Tug of War - borrow ROTC rope

Pumpkin decorating - we will buy faux pumpkins and paint.

Life-size tic tac toe

Leaf race - blow leaves across the table through a straw

Water balloon toss

Pumpkin golf

FBISD Volunteer Background Checks

If you plan to help the band in any capacity this school year you must complete an annual background check with the school district. This applies for any help you may provide at a football game, contest or on campus. FBISD clears the volunteer list every year on July 1st, and a new application is required. Click the following link to complete Background Check If you have issues, please contact FBISD Human Resources at 281-634-1270.   Once you complete the form, please forward a copy of the approval email to Lyra Gulfo, vicepresident@elkinsband.org.

How to stay in the know: Download the Band App and Google Calendar

In addition to the weekly newsletter that you will receive from the EHS Band and Guard Boosters (posted on Booster Hub and Band App), we highly recommend that you download the Band Calendar and Band App to stay on top of what’s happening with the band program.

Band App – EHS Band and Guard 2025-2026:  Our band directors will send out their weekly “Notes from the Band Staff” via the Band App with all things the students need to be aware of for upcoming school activities. The band staff also send out announcements and communicate arrival times to the band hall while on marching and performance trips. Click this link to be added to this group:   https://band.us/n/ada3AdZ1b5F3C

Band App – Elkins Band Boosters Club Volunteers 2025-26: We communicate with our volunteers via the BandApp. We will post requests and reminders for volunteers. Another nice feature, we have linked the band Google calendar to this group, so you can also see upcoming events in the app. Click this link to be added to this group:  https://band.us/@elkinsvol2526

Band Calendar: Schedules get adjusted from time to time and the band calendar is always updated quickly and is the best place to look for dates and times. Visit https://elkinsband.boosterhub.com/about/11121 and click the +Add Calendar link to add the calendar to your calendar.

Section Liaison Groups:  We have developed an additional way for all of you to connect with each other.  Each section has a liaison that you can reach out to for questions you have throughout the year that you don’t necessarily need to go to the booster club or directors.  The links to each of the section’s BandApp link are listed below.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions that may pop up. The board is here to help!

It’s a great day to be a Knight!
