Band and Guard Booster Update: Spirit Night today, Football game logistics this week, Volunteer needs, and other updates

09-17-25

Elkins Band & Guard Family,

What an incredible week we had!  Our first Thursday night football game ended with a win! We had an amazing turnout on Saturday to help build our props. And….in the beginning of our fundraiser, we have raised $29,672 of the $60,000 goal (8 days to go)!   A huge thank you to all our volunteers and supporters of the Elkins Band and Guard—this program truly thrives because of your dedication and support!

Today is Spirit Night, that means we have an option for lunch and/or dinner!  Support the Elkins Band & Guard and order from Mod Pizza (18931 University Blvd) today, September 17th.  Mod Pizza will give back 25% on your bill.  Use code MODGIVES25 for dine- in, take-out, or delivery orders.

If you purchased the rehearsal pizza plan for your student, it will be served on Thursday, September 18th at 4:00 pm this week.  Please remind your student to pick up their pizza.

This Saturday, September 20th, is our next football game—and it’s also Middle School Night!  We’re excited to welcome band students from Quail Valley Middle School, who will be joining us in the stands and performing with us during halftime.  Please note: Our students will be performing their show “Metalmorphosis” before the game this week. This will be their first performance with props on the field!  Students will be on the field by approximately 5:30 PM so don’t be late!

We'll be collecting gently used shoes for an upcoming band fundraiser starting in October! Every pair helps support our program.  Hold onto your shoe donations for now — your support will help us march forward!

We also want to take a moment to recognize one of our Corporate Sponsors:  Animal Hospital Hwy 6, a Corporate Gold Sponsor, is a full-service animal hospital providing comprehensive healthcare services to pets in Sugar Land and the surrounding areas. It is owned by former band parents Scott and Susan Driever and offers a wide variety of medical, surgical and dental services. Thank you so much for your support of our program!

Mandatory Prop Volunteer Practice– Saturday, September 20th

To ensure everything runs smoothly during our show, this rehearsal is required for anyone interested in volunteering with props. We'll walk through prop locations, practice in and out of the field, and more.  Practice will start at 11:00AM.

Elkins vs. Ridgepoint Football Game (Home) – Saturday, September 20th

This Saturday, September 20th we will be playing against Ridgepoint High School at Hopson Field House.  Come out and watch the game and see our Band and Color Guard perform their show BEFORE the football game (estimate time 5:30PM).   This will be the first time that they place the props on the field!

It is imperative that you are there to pick up your student on time or arrange in advance for them to catch a ride with a friend.  Please park in the designated area and wait for your student to come to you.  Remember that students must unload, put up equipment (have uniforms checked in when we start wearing them), etc. before they can leave.  So be patient.  It is important that you park in a parking spot in the student lot closest to the parking lot attendant building (near the entrance of the lot) and wait for your student to come to you. There is no "pick up line" and it is a safety issue to have cars moving near the band hall when students are coming and going.

Volunteers needed for this week’s football game and other tasks

Volunteers are still needed to assist with help with the upcoming Ridgepoint football game:  we need assistance in all areas (percussion equipment, chaperones, traffic director, etc).  Please go to our volunteer page to sign up.

We do have several upcoming events that require volunteer support.  Do visit the Booster volunteer page to review opportunities for you to volunteer at events and football games:

  • Thursday, Sept. 18 - Help with pizza or packing snacks
  • Saturday, Sept. 20 - NEW! Mandatory Rehearsal for Prop Helpers and Football Game
  • Thursday, Sept. 25 - Help with pizza or packing snacks
  • Friday, Sept. 26 - Help with Fort Bend County Parade and Football Game!

Fundraising: Raise-365 and RaiseRight

Raise-365: Thank you so much to everyone who has donated for our Raise-365 fundraiser. As of Monday morning, we were at $29,672 of the $60,000 goal, so about 50% of the way! The fundraiser has 8 days to go, let's not lose that momentum! Make sure you are talking this up to family and friends.

You can donate directly to the Booster Club, if you'd rather, by sending a check with your student to give to Mr. Chen/Ms. Scott, or to: Elkins Band Booster Club, 6140 Hwy. 6 #94, Missouri City, TX 77459.

Or, go to the BoosterHub store and make a donation by credit card, and we will attribute it to the fundraiser. This will not count toward individual prizes associated with your student.

Also, don't forget about company matches!

Raise Right: Help us earn more for our organization by buying gift cards and shopping online through RaiseRight! Parent Craft Social - Homecoming Mums October 9th

It's Homecoming Time! Here in Texas, it's all about the mums. If you traditionally make a Homecoming Mum for your student, want to make one for the first time, or are just curious as to what the heck this is, join us for a craft night in the Band Hall on Oct. 9, from 5 - 7 p.m.  Get all the information, including what you should bring, on BoosterHub: https://elkinsband.boosterhub.com/calendar/10321?eventId=727317

Domino’s Cards For Purchase

Did you miss your chance to purchase a Domino’s Slice the Price Card during our recent fundraiser? Thanks to everyone’s hustle, we have 159 cards available to sell. Each card is $20 and any proceeds add to our fundraiser. Purchase cards here: https://elkinsband.boosterhub.com/store/10

Community Bash Games Opportunity

On Saturday, October 18, the band is hosting an Elkins Community Bash from 12 -2 p.m. at school. The band will perform for the community at noon, followed by food and games. Here's where we need help: We are looking for families to sponsor the carnival games. By doing this, you would choose a carnival game (see idea list below), gather the materials, set it up, and run it.   There will be students to help, but due to them being in rehearsal and then performing, they aren't able to do the set up. The Booster Club will provide game prizes. Please email Christine at president@elkinsband.org to say which game you can help with.

Possible carnival game ideas:

  • Ring around the soda bottle.
  • Cake/cookie walk.
  • Guess weight of a cake
  • Treasure chest - fill an ice chest with ice and gold coins
  • Tug of War - borrow ROTC rope
  • Pumpkin decorating - we will buy faux pumpkins and paint.
  • Life-size tic tac toe
  • Leaf race - blow leaves across the table through a straw
  • Water balloon toss
  • Pumpkin golf

FBISD Volunteer Background Checks

If you plan to help the band in any capacity this school year you must complete an annual background check with the school district. This applies for any help you may provide at a football game, contest or on campus. FBISD clears the volunteer list every year on July 1st, and a new application is required. Click the following link to complete Background Check If you have issues, please contact FBISD Human Resources at 281-634-1270.  Once you complete the form, please forward a copy of the approval email to Lyra Gulfo, vicepresident@elkinsband.org.
