Band and Guard Booster Update: First football game, spirit night, volunteer needs, and other updates

Elkins Band & Guard Family,


This newsletter is packed with important updates, so we encourage you to read it all the way through. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!


If you purchased the rehearsal pizza plan for your student, it will be served on Thursday, August 28th at 4:00 pm this week. Please remind your student to pick up their pizza. 


Our first football game of the season is Saturday, August 30th—we’d love for you to come out and cheer on the Elkins Band and Guard. Additional game details are included in this week’s newsletter.  If you plan to volunteer, please do not forget to complete your required FBISD Volunteer Background Check (details in the newsletter).


For those who picked up items from our supply tree on registration day, this is a friendly reminder to drop them off at the band hall.   Students can place supplies near the uniform room. With nearly 200 band members, we’ll need plenty of snacks to fuel us through marching season!  In an upcoming newsletter, we’ll also share an online list of supplies still needed.


We’ve also included links to our Section Liaison Band App groups at the bottom of this newsletter. These groups are a great way for parents and students to stay connected throughout the year. Each section has a dedicated liaison who can answer questions that don’t necessarily need to go to the booster club or directors. We encourage you to join your section’s group(s) and stay connected!

Spirit Night 16 Handles– Friday, August 29th

We have a nice treat lined up for our next spirit night.  Support the Elkins Band & Guard and visit 16 Handles (3340 FM 1092 Ste #310) Friday, August 29th from 5PM- 9PM.   Please enter the coupon code GIVEBACK upon ordering online through the 16 Handles mobile app or website, mention the fundraiser at the register.  16 Handles will donate 10% of your order to the Elkins Band and Guard. Mention the Elkins HS Band Booster fundraiser at the register.


Elkins vs. Houston Heights Football Game – Saturday, August 30th

Saturday, August 30th is our first football game against Houston Heights at Hopson Field House.  Come out and watch the game and see our Band and Color Guard perform at half time!  Students will be wearing their blue band dri-fit, black shorts, and tennis shoes.  The band staff will send notifications via Band App on their estimated arrival back to the school following the game.  


It is imperative that you are there to pick up your student on time or arrange in advance for them to catch a ride with a friend.  Please park in the designated area and wait for your student to come to you.  Remember that students must unload, put up equipment (have uniforms checked in when we start wearing them), etc. before they can leave.  So be patient.  It is important that you park in a parking spot in the student lot closest to the parking lot attendant building (near the entrance of the lot) and wait for your student to come to you. There is no "pick up line" and it is a safety issue to have cars moving near the band hall when students are coming and going.  


Volunteers needed to help following the football game on Saturday, August 30th football game 

Volunteers are still needed to assist with help following the game:  unloading equipment, empty ice chests, and traffic director.  Please go to our volunteer page to sign up.

We will continue to update the Booster volunteer page with additional opportunities for you to volunteer at football games.  Please do take the time to review the  Band Parent Volunteer Guidelines.


Football Tickets Purchasing Link

Tickets for the football season can be purchased here:  Elkins High School Events and Tickets by GoFan.  If you are a bus chaperone for a football game, you do not need to purchase a ticket.  All other volunteers, guests must purchase a ticket.  

 

Registration Payments in Booster Hub – Next Payment due August 31st

Reminder that the next registration payment is due by Sunday, August 31st. If you are paying by zelle or check, please make sure to make your payment by August 31st.  If you plan to pay by credit card, you can go into your boosterhub account to pay.  If you aren't sure of your balance, check your boosterhub account or email treasurer@elkinsband.org. 


Final Reminder:  Hawaii Trip – Registration Information (Aug 31st key date)

The band is going to Hawaii! All the detailed information regarding the trip was posted in the BandApp:  https://band.us/band/97374001/post/33.  If you intend for your student to go on this trip, they need to register for the trip and make a payment.  We need registration and payment by August 31 so we can move ahead with planning this trip.  Anyone still in a status of “pending” will eventually be removed.  If you have any questions, please email Christine Hall - president@elkinsband.org

FBISD Volunteer Background Checks

If you plan to help the band in any capacity this school year you must complete an annual background check with the school district. This applies for any help you may provide at a football game, contest or on campus. FBISD clears the volunteer list every year on July 1st, and a new application is required. Click the following link to complete Background Check If you have issues, please contact FBISD Human Resources at 281-634-1270.  


Once you complete the form, please forward a copy of the approval email to Lyra Gulfo, vicepresident@elkinsband.org.



How to stay in the know: Download the Band App and Google Calendar

In addition to the weekly newsletter that you will receive from the EHS Band and Guard Boosters (posted on Booster Hub and Band App), we highly recommend that you download the Band Calendar and Band App to stay on top of what’s happening with the band program.
