Elkins Band and Guard Family,

What an incredible weekend for the Elkins Band and Guard! From a Friday night football performance to earning straight 1s at UIL on Saturday morning — and then being crowned Grand Champions at the Channelview Marching Contest that evening — our students and directors truly shined! 

This moment has been four years in the making — a testament to the dedication, talent, and teamwork that define this program. It’s thrilling to watch their momentum grow and see just how far they’ll soar in the coming weeks!  A huge thank you to all the amazing parents for your endless support — whether you’re driving to rehearsals, cheering from the stands, or volunteering behind the scenes, you make this journey possible.

This Saturday, October 18^th is our Band Bash from noon to 2pm.  The Band Bash is our opportunity to get our program exposure and support from our community.  The mayor, FBISD council members, and other leaders in the community are coming.  We want our students to participate in the event by volunteering to support logistics as well as thank our visitors to make this a success.  Your presence makes a difference!

SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY: 

• Noon:  The band and guard will kick off the event with the debut performance of the 2025–2026 marching show, “Metalmorphosis”
• After the performance, stick around for carnival games and family-friendly fun — something for everyone to enjoy!  Admission is FREE and you can pre-order game tickets to skip the lines and dive right into the fun.
• In addition, help support the program’s October Shoe Drive by dropping off gently worn or new shoes of all kinds into labeled boxes. The goal is to fill 100 bags with 25 pairs of shoes each!

CARNIVAL GAMES:

• If you are still interested, we are looking for families to sponsor carnival games. By doing this, you would choose a carnival game or activity of your choice, gather the materials, set it up, and run it. The Booster Club will provide game prizes. Please email Christine at president@elkinsband.orgto say which game you can help with. Below are some suggestions still available, but feel free to suggest a different activity:
• Cake/cookie walk
• Treasure chest - fill an ice chest with ice and gold coins
• Tug of War - (we can borrow ROTC rope)
• Life-size tic tac toe
• Leaf race - blow leaves across the table through a straw
• Water balloon toss
• Pumpkin golf

Again, we cannot stress enough that your attendance and participation in the first ever Community Bash will be key to the success of the event.  Please do not hesitate to reach out for any questions.

Support the Elkins Band & Guard and order from Cane’s (3833 FM 1092 Rd) Friday, October 17th from 11AM-4PM.  Students will be getting together at the restaurant after Stadium Rehearsal for a social and to grab lunch! Cane’s will donate 15% of sales. Elkins vs.DullesFootball Game (Away) Thursday, October 23^rd

Thursday, October 23^rd, we will be playing against Dulles High School at Hopson.  Come out and watch the game and see our Band and Color Guard perform their show Metalmorphosis at halftime.    Volunteers are still needed to assist with help with the upcoming Dulles football game:  we need assistance in all areas (percussion equipment, chaperones, traffic director, etc).  Please go to our volunteer page to sign up.

UIL Area Marching Contest Saturday, October 25^th

We are thrilled that The Elkins Band and Color Guard will be performing in UIL Area Marching Contest on Saturday, October 25^th at Freedom Field (10855 County Rd 65, Rosharon, TX 77583). The Booster Club will be feeding the students an Italian catered lunch at the school on this day.  Here is a link to purchase your tickets to attend the event: https://uilregion13.com/spectator-tickets   Additional logistics, including timing of performance, etc.  will be shared by the directors and in the BandApp in the coming days.   Like our other competition days, we will need volunteers to help before, during and after the competition.  We will update the volunteer needs in the coming days.  Please go to our volunteer page to sign up.

Trunk or Treat Tuesday, October 28^th following band rehearsal

It’s time to delight our band and guard ghouls with spooks and sweets at our annual trunk or treat.  It’s a student favorite event!  Come out, decorate your trunk and hand out treats (enough for 200) with us Tuesday, October 28^th immediately following band rehearsal.  More details on timing will be sent in the following newsletter.  In the meantime, start planning your trunk décor!

Tip: Google trunk or treat ideas for inspiration. Some people even turn their trunks into haunted houses!
